Monument to «Parents»

On November 30, 2007, the “Monument to Parents” was opened in Metallurgists Square. The idea of creating such a composition came to the mind of the then mayor of the city, Evgeny Karpov. The Magnitogorsk Art Gallery hosted a competition for the best monument to parents, at which works by famous and emerging artists were presented. Subsequently, from all the proposed works, the best project was chosen, which now stands in the park on Metallurgov Avenue. It was dedicated to his parents - everyone whom today’s Magnitogorsk residents love and remember. Opposite the building of the former Komsomolets cinema, an elderly couple sat down on one of the benches. Although she is cast from cast iron, she appears to the audience as if she were alive. It was as if two elderly people were walking in the park, got tired and sat down to rest. A pigeon, a regular in these places, perched on the woman’s lap. And the expression on her companion’s face is so wise and peaceful that it seems as if in a second the spouses will begin to slowly talk to each other. The sculptural composition made of cast iron with the symbolic name “Elderly People” was made by order of the city administration by specialists from the shaped foundry shop of the MMK mechanical repair complex. The idea of the composition belongs to the artist Alexei Agafonov and the sculptor Konstantin Delev from the creative workshop Premier LLC operating in Zlatoust. The weight of the sculptural group including the bench is about two tons.
